NOL ORDERS TWO VLCC TANKERS
Singapore-based Neptune Orient Lines has ordered two very large crude carriers for its subsidiary American Eagle Tankers Inc.
The 292,000-deadweight-ton double-hulled VLCCs will be constructed by Hyundai Heavy Industries of South Korea and delivered in 2002. They will operate under the Singapore flag. American Eagle Tankers currently operates 18 Aframax tankers.
“All our currently owned crude oil tankers have double hulls, but this will be the first time we will have built double hulled VLCCs,” said Joseph Kwok, president of American Eagle Tankers.
Besides tankers, NOL’s fleet consists mainly of containerships, operated through the group’s liner arm APL.
