Each year we honor exemplary shippers based on insights from industry practitioners and feedback from transportation providers. The term “shipper of choice” is ubiquitous in our industry, but what does it take to be a good shipper? We have found that transportation providers care most about appointment flexibility, driver accommodations, facility efficiency — including low detention and dwell time — and overages, shortages and damages (OSD) rates.
The 2020 FreightWaves Shipper of Choice seal of approval assesses how shippers perform in each of these categories relative to their peers, based on a series of measurable and qualitative responses. The shippers who receive this recognition must first be nominated and then complete a certified survey conducted by the FreightWaves Research Group.
Simply put, shippers who outperform their peers in any of these categories may receive the Shipper of Choice seal from FreightWaves.
“Shippers who embrace best practices don’t just benefit carriers, they drive down costs across the market for all participants,” said Craig Fuller, founder and CEO of FreightWaves.
Last year, Kellogg’s took home the first-place trophy, followed by Nestle, Walmart, Conagra and Home Depot.
