NORASIA ENTERS TRANSPACIFIC
Norasia Line, the Swiss transatlantic and Asia/Europe carrier, will enter
the transpacific service next month.
The Swiss carrier is the latest in a series of new entrants in the Pacific,
that includes Mediterranean Shipping Co., CMA-CGM and Trans-Pacific Lines.
The new service will commence on May 15, with six 1,400-TEU ship
calling Laem Chebang, Singapore, Jakarta, Hong Kong, Busan, Vancouver, B.C. and one
unnamed U.S. Northwest port.
Norasia will operate the service on its own.
The carrier will switch its 1,400-TEU vessels to the Pacific from the
existing Montreal/northern Europe/Mediterranean service. However, the transatlantic
service will be maintained, a spokesman for Norasia said.
