NWSA sets container throughput record in November

The Northwest Seaport Alliance, which comprises the ports of Seattle and Tacoma, Wash., handled a total of 336,381 TEUS for the month, a 20.2 percent increase from the same 2015 period and a new monthly record, according to figures from the port authority.

   Through the first 11 months of 2016, total container throughput at NWSA stood at 3.2 million TEUs, up 1.6 percent from the same 2015 period.
   Loaded export container volumes rose 13.7 percent from the first 11 months of 2015 to 897,785 TEUs, but exports of empty containers fell 22.5 percent to 325,290 TEUs.
   Likewise, throughput of laden import containers grew 5.7 percent year-over-year through November to 1.27 million TEUs, while empty imports dropped 14.1 percent during the same period to 105,789 TEUs.
