NYK, Agua Japan develop anti-rust agent

Marine Guard 100’s anti-rust efficacy was verified during two-and-a-half years of testing on the deck, ballast tank, piping and other metal surfaces on an oceangoing coal carrier owned by NYK and managed by Hachiuma Steamship Co. Ltd.

NYK and Agua Japan Co. Ltd. have jointly developed an anti-rust agent called Marine Guard 100 (MG 100) for vessels, NYK said.
MG 100 has rust conversion properties, and paint that contains the anti-rust agent can be applied to metal surfaces.
MG 100’s anti-rust efficacy was verified during two-and-a-half years of testing on the deck, ballast tank, piping and other metal surfaces on an oceangoing coal carrier owned by NYK and managed by Hachiuma Steamship Co. Ltd.
The anti-rust agent converts red rust into black rust and prevents corrosion and the generation of new rust.
Overall, MG 100 reduces the task of rust removal and cleaning by crew members and is expected to contribute directly to a reduction in maintenance costs associated with metal rust.
