NYK automates labeling of burlap bags
Japanese carrier NYK Line said it has developed an automated labeling machine and labels for burlap bags to speed up handling of coffee, grains, feed and other goods shipped in burlap.
The machine prints shipping information, such as the weight, and then attaches the two-dimensional bar code label to the bag using a special adhesive.
Burlap bags typically require a lot of manual lifting and handling at the warehouse where workers have to weigh and record the weight upon arrival and departure.
The new machine automates the weight recording task and also can calculate the merchandise weight.
