NYK joins chemical audit program in Europe

Nippon Yusen Kaisha said Thursday it has decided to join a safety audit program created by the European chemical industry in relation to the transportation of chemical products by container.

The audit program of the Chemical Distribution Institute, called “Chemical-Distribution Institute – Marine Packed Cargo,” covers the transportation of chemical products by container vessels.

NYK is the first Japanese company to participate in the European-based program.

“This program facilitates safety evaluations for container vessels which carry chemical products, port facilities and warehouses,” NYK said. “Evaluation results are disclosed to Chemical Distribution Institute member companies, which deal mainly with chemical products.”

A safety evaluation system being indexed through this program will be completed to accommodate customers’ needs for greater safety.
