NYK renames logistics subsidiaries

   Nippon Yusen Kaisha has renamed several of its main logistics subsidiaries in the United States and Europe, adopting the generic name “NYK Logistics” it already introduced in Taiwan, Thailand, Australia and New Zealand in 2003.

   Effective Jan. 1, NYK’s five business units in the Americas are operating as divisions of NYK Logistics (Americas) Inc. The units were known as GST Corporation, NYK Logistics (UWDC) Inc., NYK Logistics (ETA) Inc., NYK Logistics (OCS) Inc., and New Wave Logistics (USA) Inc.

   Also effective Jan. 1, NYK’s two European companies — New Wave Logistics and UCI Logistics — were also renamed NYK Logistics

   Similarly, New Wave Logistics (Hong Kong) now trades under the name NYK Logistics (Hong Kong), and New Wave Logistics (Philippines) trades as NYK Logistics (Philippines).

   NYK plans to rename other logistics firms in Asia, with some exceptions.

   NYK has introduced a global Web site for its logistics activities at www.nyklogistics.com.

   NYK Logistics’ revenues totaled $2.6 billion in 2002. The logistics arm of NYK, which also includes Yusen Air & Sea Service, employs about 11,000 staff based at 320 warehouse and office locations worldwide.

   The group’s logistics activities produced a Yen1 billion ($9 million) operating income in six-month period to Sept. 30, 2003, on revenues of Yen135.4 billion ($1.2 billion).
