NYK starting Egypt, Levant Express
NYK will next month start a weekly container service connecting Egypt with Lebanon, Syria and Turkey.
The Egypt, Levant Express (ELX) will start on July 20 from Damietta in Egypt before sailing on to Beirut, Lebanon; Lattakia, Syria; Mersin, Turkey; and back to Damietta
The ELX has been designed to connect with the Grand Alliance’s weekly Asia/Mediterranean EU M service. The Japanese carrier is a member of the Grand Alliance with Hapag-Lloyd, OOCL and MISC Berhad (only a member in the Asia/Europe/Med trade).
“The launch of this new service further reinforces our strategy, to offer a wider and more dedicated network of services within Mediterranean markets,” said Tom Boardley, managing director of NYK’s liner division in Europe. “With our customers’ trade in the eastern Mediterranean growing strongly, we are responding by expanding our liner capabilities within this region.”
