Oman Air, Cargolux enter joint venture

Cargolux will provide Oman Air with access to its Boeing 747 freighters, while Oman Air will offer Cargolux belly hold space on its passenger aircraft.

Cargolux Airlines International, an all-cargo carrier based in Luxembourg, has entered a joint venture with Oman Air.
Through the joint venture, Cargolux will provide Oman Air with access to its Boeing 747 freighters, while Oman Air will offer Cargolux belly hold space on its passenger aircraft, which fly in and out of Muscat.
“This will be the first full freighter service to have been launched from Oman and it will enable us to jointly deploy significant and commercially attractive freighter capacity throughout Oman Air’s network,” said Paul Gregorowitsch, the airline’s chief executive officer, in a statement. He noted Cargolux’s freighter capacity will be attractive to shippers of project cargo, livestock, oversized shipments, vehicles and aircraft engines.
Dirk Reich, chief executive at Cargolux, said the joint venture will “enable us to proceed with our planned expansion of air freight services in 2015 from Oman to China, Europe, Africa and the United States. Furthermore, the joint venture will give Cargolux the opportunity to utilize Oman Air’s experience of flying to 11 destinations in India, as well as to East Africa.”
