Oneida Ltd., the maker of cutlery and dinner wear, said it has opened a new distribution center in Bryan County, Ga., near the Port of Savannah,
The 500,000-square-foot leased center will employ 150 to handle the company’s shipping requirements for the Eastern half of the United States.
In addition to the Savannah facility, Oneida has operated a West Coast distribution center in Lebec, Calif., since December 2005.
The Oneida, N.Y.-based company said the distribution centers are part of a reconfiguration of its North American logistics and distribution that aims to reduce costs, improve service and simplify product flows.
The Savannah center’s proximity to a major port is expected to produce a significant reduction in freight costs and transit times.
