The $2.46 million terminal was constructed by the local company RG Carter, Associated British Ports said.
Orwell Bulk Terminal, a 2.2 million-euro (U.S. $2.46 million) dry bulk warehouse terminal, opened at the Port of Ipswich June 15.
The terminal, which was constructed by the local company RG Carter, replaced the former “Number 3” warehouse at the port. It provides almost an acre of storage for grain, barley and other agribulks.
The Port of Ipswich is located at the head of the Orwell River, 12 miles from the open sea. The port handles dry bulk, forest products, containers, general cargo and has roll-on/roll-off automotive facilities.
“Last year the port handled over 1.5 million tons of bulk cargo for East Anglian customers,” Associated British Ports Short Sea Ports Director Andrew Harston said in a statement. “It is an important and growing business for the port. The opening of the Orwell Bulk Terminal will help to provide our customers with modern facilities.”
