Ozburn-Hessey makes international logistics splash with 3 acquisitions
Ozburn-Hessey Logistics, a top 40 U.S. logistics company in terms of revenue, said Thursday it has acquired Philadelphia-based customs brokerage and freight forwarding firm Barthco International, broker and forwarder software supplier Freightek, and transportation broker Turbo Logistics.
Ozburn-Hessey is a provider of domestic warehousing, distribution and transportation management services with more than 20 million square feet of warehouse space. Customers include HP, Honeywell, International Paper, Siemens, Remington Arms, Overstock.com and DuPont.
The newly acquired companies will operate as divisions of Ozburn-Hessey and retain their existing management structures, the company said. The Brentwood, Tenn.-based company said it will retain Barthco’s 700 employees and Turbo’s 140-person workforce.
Barthco handles more than 700,000 freight shipments per year.
“Each company has clients who need the services of the others” and the merger “allows us to offer a broader range of services and to attract and keep great clients,” said Scott McWilliams, chief executive officer, in a statement.
Ozburn-Hessey had $269 million in revenue last year. Combined the companies project more than $600 million in operating revenues this year.
