PACIFIC NUCLEAR TRANSPORT PREPARES FOR NUCLEAR FUEL SHIPMENT
British Nuclear Fuels and France’s COGEMA said they will begin
moving a shipment of nuclear fuel to Japan on July 21.
The companies will transport the nuclear fuel on two vessels, the
Pacific Teal and the Pacific Pintail, which are part of a jointly operated
carrier, Pacific Nuclear Transport.
Both vessels are armed and will escort each other from the ports of
Cherbourg, France and Burrows, in the United Kingdom. "The maritime route and
approximate timing of arrival in Japan will be communicated one day after departure from
Europe," the companies said.
The recipients of the fuel are the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant
operated by Tokyo Electric Power Co., and Kansai Electric Power Co.’s
Takahama nuclear power plant.
