Shanghai Pudong International Airport Cargo Terminal Co., Ltd. processed nearly 1.6 million tons of airfreight in 2015 from its base at the Shanghai Pudong International Airport.
Shanghai Pudong International Airport Cargo Terminal Co., Ltd. (PACTL) posted a 6.5 percent year-over-year increase in airfreight tonnage handled in 2015 to nearly 1.6 million tons, beating its previous annual record it established in 2014, PACTL said.
The air cargo handling services provider processed 651,657 tons of imported airfreight in 2015, a 9.0 percent increase from 2014. International imports jumped 9.4 percent year-over-year to 602,004 tons, while domestic imports rose 4.3 percent to 49,653 tons.
The growth in international imports resulted from the rising demand for imported consumer goods such as perishables, pharmaceuticals and other high-value goods, PACTL Vice President Lutz Grzegorz said.
PACTL handled 947,654 tons of exported airfreight in 2015, a 4.8 percent increase from the prior year. International exports totaled 892,223 tons, while domestic exports reached 55,431 tons, year-over-year increases of 4.4 percent and 11.5 percent, respectively.
Overall, PACTL handled 49.4 percent of all airfreight at Shanghai Pudong International Airport in 2015, an increase of 1.4 percent from 2014.
PACTL’s shareholders include Shanghai Airport (Group) Co., Ltd. (51 percent), Lufthansa Cargo AG (29 percent) and JHJ Logistics Management Co. Ltd. (20 percent).
