Palm Beach sets meeting for proposed inland port
The Port of Palm Beach District will hold an intermodal logistics task force meeting at noon Thursday to update local stakeholders on a proposed inland intermodal facility that could be developed into an 'inland port' for the southern half of Florida.
The Florida Department of Transportation's Seaport Office authorized a feasibility study on the proposal this year that concluded the idea has potential — as long as it would serve all the ports from Tampa to Miami. The study said such a facility, which would be located in western Palm Beach County, would need to offer extensive warehousing and other value-added services that would serve the entire region.
Consultants are now moving into the second phase of the project study, which would determine the market needs for such a facility, identifying potential stakeholders from ports to railroads to shippers.
Thursday's meeting will offer a detailed look at the status of the project. It will be held at the port offices at One East 11th St., Suite 600, in Riviera Beach.
