PMA REDRAFTS ILWU PENSION PROPOSAL
Spokesmen for the Pacific Maritime Association and the International Longshore & Warehouse Union told Shippers News Wire Monday that after joint meetings over the weekend, the PMA was redrafting portions of its pension proposal for union members.
“Monday’s a working day for them and us,” said Steve Stallone, an ILWU spokesman. “We’re just not having meetings together.”
The PMA and the ILWU confirmed they would resume joint meetings for further negotiations on Tuesday.
The two sides last Friday said they had reached “tentative” agreement regarding technology issues, which was considered the major stumbling block to an agreement between port employers and longshoremen.
“The technology part is past us now, and we feel we are making progress,” said Steve Sugerman, a spokesman for the PMA.
