P&O PORTS ACQUIRES SMITH BROS TERMINAL
P&O Ports has acquired Smith Bros Terminal Pty Ltd., a port logistics service provider based in Australia.
Smith Bros’ main area of focus is “the high margin sector of container packing and unpacking and container distribution,” P&O Ports said.
Its customers include Woolworths, Nestl', Johnson & Johnson and Amcor.
P&O Ports said combining inland logistics with container terminal operations enables value creation through efficiency gains, terminal market share enhancement and the extension of services offered to major exporters/importers and shipping lines.
P&O Ports already has some logistics capability through its P&O Trans Australia subsidiary, and will expand its services following the acquisition of Smith Bros.
The assets of Smith Bros include bonded customs areas with three warehouses totaling 250,000 square feet. It has two main facilities, one at Port Botany, New South Wales, and the other at Fisherman Islands, Queensland.
