POON APPOINTED CHAIRMAN OF HONG KONG CARRIER GROUP

Jim Poon, managing director of Hong Kong-based Orient Overseas

Container Lines, has been appointed chairman of the Hong Kong Liner Shipping Association.

Ulrik Brandt, head of Maersk Sealand in Hong Kong, was the previous chairman of the group, which represents liner carriers’ interests in Hong Kong.

Poon said that the association will use its influence to address transportation policy issues in Hong Kong, including the timely opening of the port’s Container Terminal 9 in May 2001, the smoother transfer of containerized goods across the border with the mainland, and the promotion of Hong Kong as a transportation center.
