Port of Cleveland CEO elected Green Marine chair

Montreal Gateway and Vancouver Fraser leaders named as directors.

William D. Friedman, president and CEO of the Port of Cleveland, has been elected chairman of the Green Marine’s Board of Directors.
Friedman, who has served on the board since 2013, was named chair during GreenTech 2018 in Vancouver, British Columbia, on May 31.
Two new directors also elected to the board. They are Michael Fratianni, president and CEO of Montreal Gateway Terminals Partnership, and Cliff Stewart, vice president of infrastructure for the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority.
The Port of Cleveland is one of the environmental program’s founding members. “It’s been great to see Green Marine grow and expand, and I am pleased to assume the chairman position as we advance the maritime industry’s environmental stewardship practices and the development of this industry-led initiative,” Friedman said.
David Bolduc, Green Marine’s executive director, said the timing of Friedman’s election could not have been better. GreenTech 2019 will take place in Cleveland, and new program participants include Interlake Steamship Co. and Great Lakes Towing Co., both based in Cleveland.
Friedman is the first American to preside over the Green Marine Board of Directors. He also serves as a director of Green Marine Management Corporation-U.S. and is the chairman-elect of the American Association of Port Authorities.
Six other senior executives comprise the remainder of the Green Marine Board of Directors. They are Mark Barker, president of Interlake Steamship Co.; Brandy D. Christian, president and CEO of the Port of New Orleans; Craig H. Middlebrook, deputy administrator of the St. Lawrence Seaway Development Corp.; Allister Paterson, executive vice president and COO of the CSL Group; Ron Tursi, president of Guardian Ship Management Inc.; and Sylvie Vachon, president and CEO of the Montreal Port Authority.
