The port received planning consent for the first phase of its new logistics park, which will include four warehouses that will provide nearly 1 million square feet of storage.
The first phase for the 1.4 million square-foot Port of Felixstowe Logistics Park received planning permission, the Port of Felixstowe said in a statement.
Four warehouses, which are part of the first phase of the facility, will provide nearly 1 million square feet of storage space. The largest of the four warehouses will be 360,000 square feet.
The first phase will occupy 51 acres on the 68-acre site, while the remainder of the site will be built out as part of the second phase of construction.
The planning permission was granted a month after the extension of Port of Felixstowe’s berth 9, which allows two of the world’s largest containerships to be worked simultaneously, and the opening of a 4 million euro (U.S. $4.32 million) expansion of the port’s food examination facilities.
The Port of Felixstowe handles over 3.7 million TEUs annually. Approximately 30 shipping lines operate from the United Kingdom port, which offer around 90 services to and from 400 ports worldwide, according to the port’s website.
