The fully-automatic reefer container monitoring system, which was implemented at the C. Steinweg (Sud-West Terminal), eliminates manual checking, utilizes the port’s terminal operating system and is compatible with all current reefer manufacturer models.
The Port of Hamburg has implemented a fully-automatic reefer container monitoring system at the C. Steinweg (Sud-West Terminal), the German port said.
Designed by Austrian technology group Identec Solutions, the CTAS Reefer System replaces the usual manual reefer container check done by terminal staff every four to eight hours.
The system records, notifies and processes all data automatically and is linked with the terminal’s operating system, which can store all data in an archived database.
The system works with a monitoring device tag that is magnetically attached to incoming reefer containers, which then links with the container’s controller. Once connected, the tag relays data by radio signal every 15 minutes. Should any discrepancies arise, an automatic alarm is signaled.
“CTAS Reefer is compatible with all current models from reefer container manufacturers such as Daikin, Carrier, Starcool or Thermoking. Unlike the usual power-line modem solutions, this is completely independent,” said Stephan Piworus, Global Vice President, Sales Ports & Terminals for Identec Solutions in Hamburg.
Identec Solutions specializes in wireless sensor and localization applications. The company’s CTAS Reefer system is currently installed at ports in the Netherlands, United States, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Pakistan, Argentina, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia and Colombia.
