Port of Oakland cargo volumes up in June

   The Port of Oakland handled 205,692 TEU in June 2014, 4.6-percent more than in June 2013. Full export containers were 84,032, up 1.7 percent; full import containers were 73,853, up 5.8 percent; empty import containers were 19,776 TEU, up 13.2 percent; and empty export containers were 28,031 TEU, up 5.1 percent.
   In the first six months of 2014, Oakland has handled 1,176,950 TEU, 2.1-percent more than in the first half of 2013.
   The Oakland Board of Port Commissioners on Thursday ratified the election of new board officers. Commissioner Alan S. Yee will serve as president, Commissioner Cestra “Ces” Butner as first vice president, and Commissioner Earl S. Hamlin as second vice president. The board elects new officers at the beginning of every fiscal year; the port’s current fiscal year began on July 1.
