Port of Oakland online shipping platform goes live

The portal gives cargo owners, freight haulers a single window into operations at four container terminals.

The Port of Oakland said an information gateway for shippers and truckers moving cargo through its container terminals went live Thursday morning.
The new Oakland Portal provides a single window for information about all four of Oakland’s container terminals, which are operated by SSA Marine, Everport, TraPac and Matson.
The terminal will provide data such as vessel schedules, cargo status and live camera views of seaport roadways.
“This is what our industry is asking for,” said Port of Oakland Maritime Director John Driscoll. “We’re providing a comprehensive digital view of ships, cargo and terminal information all in one place on the computer … no more clicking through multiple websites.”
A barebones version of the portal, with terminal hours, customer notices and news, as well as camera views of port roadways, are available to any visitor to the website. Functions such as paying terminal fees, cargo status updates and trucker appointments are available with registration and a login.
Early next year the port plans to upgrade the portal with real-time performance metrics and dashboards customized for portal users such as motor carriers and cargo owners.
The port said supply chain operators will be able to better manage trade flow with the portal in place. For example, cargo owners will know with greater precision when to expect merchandise and trucking companies will know exactly when and where to dispatch drivers for container pickup.
New Jersey-based logistics software provider Advent Intermodal Solutions created the Oakland Portal as an extension of its customer-based eModal system.
