Port of Rotterdam, Kloosterboer invest in Rotterdam Cool Port

The Port of Rotterdam Authority and Kloosterboer are investing in Rotterdam Cool Port on the City Terminal site, which ceased operations at the beginning of the month.

The Port of Rotterdam Authority and Kloosterboer, a logistics services provider for temperature-controlled food products, are investing in Rotterdam Cool Port, a new cold storage cluster on the City Terminal site, which ceased operation at the beginning of October, the port authority said.
Kloosterboer is purchasing five hectares of land for the development of Rotterdam Cool Port, with the option to expand in the future. Construction will commence in early 2016 and the facility is expected to become operational some time in 2017.
Rotterdam Cool Port will feature 40,000 temperature-controlled pallet spaces to handle an estimated 400,000 pallets a year, at least.
In addition, the facility will have approximately 14,500 square meters of space to accommodate various services such as packing, sorting and cross-docking.
Empty depots and food inspection will also be set up at Rotterdam Cool Port in the future.
Based in the Netherlands, Kloosterboer operates over 3.5 million cubic meters of temperature-controlled storage spread across 15 locations in the Netherlands and abroad for the storage of over 500,000 tons of both food and non-food goods.
