Port of Rotterdam upgrades container terminal

Rotterdam’s R.B.C. Container Terminal began expanding operations with the construction of a new jetty and the redevelopment of its storage yard.

R.B.C. Container Terminal at the Port of Rotterdam is getting a new jetty and redeveloping its storage yard. The Port of Rotterdam Authority announced construction is already underway for the new jetty, which will have a fully electric crane that will be able to lift containers weighing up to 30 tons from a distance of up to 30 meters.
The terminal plans to have the capability to load and unload both laden and empty containers by January 2016.
The current yard at the terminal, which mainly stores empty containers, is being redesigned to store laden containers. The port said in a statement, “The modifications to the yard are being implemented in phases and the first phase has already been completed successfully.”
Construction of the new jetty will be handled by contractor De Klerk, and the port authority will work with KWS to redevelopment its storage yard.
