The Omani port signed a memorandum of understanding with two Iranian ports to facilitate trade growth between the two nations.
The Port of Salalah, situated along the Arabian Sea in southwestern Oman, signed a memorandum of understanding with two Iranian ports – Shahid Rajaee Port and Chabahar Port – through the Port and Maritime Authority of the Islamic Republic of Iran to facilitate trade growth between Oman and Iran, the Port of Salalah said.
Under the agreement, the three ports will establish joint marketing strategies; work together to strengthen trade opportunities; and promote an all water route between Bandar Abbas, Chabahar and Salalah.
“The agreement also provides for leveraging the knowledge and experience of Port of Salalah to help modernize and improve the infrastructure of the two Iraninan ports in addition to offering support and expertise in training and skill development for the Iranian work force,” the Port of Salalah said. “This is to cater to the growth in trade and commerce expected to pass through the Iranian ports.”
The Chabahar Port is situated in southeastern Iran, while the Shahid Rajaee Port, which handles nearly half of Iran’s seaborne trade, is located on the northern shore of the Strait of Hormoz and Qeshm Island.
