Port of Seattle, SSA sign 15-year lease, recommission Terminal 25
The port of Seattle approved on Thursday a 15-year lease with Seattle-based SSA Terminals, encompassing 32 acres at the out of commission Terminal 25 and the southern end of Terminal 30.
The port said it will invest an estimated $15 million to $20 million on repairs and improvements needed to make the Terminal 25 operational. The lease with SSA has four five-year options and begins July 1. SSA will provide three of its own container cranes at Terminal 25.
Matson Lines will move into Terminal 25 from Terminal 18 when its refurbishment has been completed, the port said in a statement. Matson and SSA had operated at Terminal 25 from the late 1980s until switching to Terminal 18 in 2002.
