Port of Tacoma orders Kalmar straddle carriers
The Port of Tacoma, Wash., has ordered seven straddle carriers from Kalmar Industries for the port's on-dock intermodal rail operations.
The CSC 350 straddle carriers, which have 40-ton, single-lift capacities, are to be delivered in October. The carriers will replace five older straddle carriers used to load and unload double-stack containers at Tacoma's on-dock rail facility.
The port has four dockside intermodal rail yards, operated by Tacoma Rail, a division of Tacoma Public Utilities, and served by the BNSF Railway and Union Pacific railroads.
Kalmar is part of Cargotec Corp., which provides cargo-handling equipment for ports, terminals, distribution centers and ships.
