Port of Tampa opens new warehouse
The Port of Tampa has opened a new, 96,000-square-foot warehouse for handling imports of steel and other general cargoes.
The Port of Tampa's new warehouse was built without any interior beams, allowing forklift operators easier movement within the facility.. |
The new warehouse is at Berth 206 on Hooker's Point. Port officials said the building has a flooring system with interlocking pavers and clear-span construction that will allow forklift drivers to move cargo and pallets within the building without having to navigate around posts common to many warehouses.
Officials said the warehouse, combined with the availability of 4,500 feet of linear berth space adjacent to the building, and the proximity to the nearby Hooker's Point Container Terminal, should attract carriers and shippers to the port.
'This facility shows a solid commitment to the port's investment in maritime development and to the continued growth of our general cargo activity,' said Richard Wainio, port director and chief executive officer. 'We want to send a clear message that Tampa will continue to be Florida's hub for these cargoes for many years to come.'
Tampa handles more steel tonnage than any other Florida port.
