The fee adjustments at the Port of Vancouver in British Columbia are scheduled to take effect Jan. 1, 2018 and will benefit smaller container trucking companies servicing the western Canadian port.
The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority is adjusting the amount it charges container trucking companies that are authorized to operate within the Port of Vancouver.
The adjustments at the western Canadian port will take effect Jan. 1, 2018, and will benefit smaller container trucking companies, the port authority said Tuesday.
The changes are being made in response to feedback from smaller trucking companies and the Canadian government, which claimed the charges were disproportionate.
Approximately one-third of trucking companies authorized to access the port, representing the smaller companies, will pay $25,000 per year instead of $35,000 per year.
Trucking companies were formally advised of the changes and provided with amended access agreements on Nov. 1.
“The port authority’s truck licensing system is operated on a cost-recovery basis, so the savings realized by the smaller companies will be equally distributed across the largest,” the port authority said.
