The Port of Virginia handled 226,000 TEUs in July, the highest amount ever recorded for that monthly period in the port”s history.
The Port of Virginia handled more TEU volumes, containers and railed boxes this July over any previous July in the port’s history, Virginia Port Authority Chief Executive Officer John F. Reinhart said in a statement.
The port handled 226,000 TEUs in July, a year-over-year increase of 9 percent. Truck volumes and rail volumes for July were up 6 percent and 15 percent year-over-year, respectively.
Since Jan. 1, the port has handled 1.47 million TEUs, up 10 percent from the same period last year. Rail and truck are both up 9 percent and 12 percent, respectively.
“At our terminals, we are beginning to process the volumes associated with the coming retail season and we anticipate this trend continuing through November,” Reinhart said. “We are focused on continuing to refine our operation, delivering consistent service at the gates and moving forward on the capital spending plan for fiscal year 2016 (July 1, 2015 – June 30, 2016).”
