Overall for the first seven months of fiscal year 2016, which began July 1, 2015, cargo volumes grew nearly 3 percent compared to the corresponding period for fiscal year 2015. Rail cargo volumes since the start of fiscal year 2016 grew the most, posting year-over-year growth of 6.5 percent.
“Though modest, our volumes in January were the best on record for that month,” Virginia Port Authority CEO and executive director John F. Reinhart said. “We continue to track according to our forecast and it is our expectation that volumes for the balance of the winter and into the spring will be relatively flat.”
