The Brazilian port took delivery of two Portainer container cranes and six rubber-tire gantry cranes last week.
Porto Itapoá, situated in southern Brazil, took delivery of two Portainer container cranes and six rubber-tire gantry (RTG) cranes from Shanghai-based equipment manufacturer ZPMC to increase its terminal’s operational capacity, the port said.
The new equipment arrived last week aboard the Zhen Hua 19, a 30,451-ton dwt heavy load carrier, after a 42 day voyage from China to Brazil, and will begin operating before the end of January.
Porto Itapoá is now equipped with six Portainers and 17 RTGs, all of which were produced by ZPMC.
The two new Portainer cranes, however, extend to 65 meters, which is 10 meters further than the other Portainers at the port.
The equipment order was planned since 2011 when Porto Itapoá initially began operations and was ratified at the end of 2013.
The port, which has two berths with a combined length of 630 meters, is currently expanding its operations to have the capability of handling two million TEUs a year.
