Prince Rupert to host major potash terminal

Canpotex, the world’s largest exporter of potash, has selected the Canadian port of Prince Rupert as the site for a new West Coast potash terminal, according to the Prince Rupert Port Authority.

The Canpotex terminal will be located on Ridley Island, a 1,000-acre greenfield industrial development with deepwater access, and be served by the Canadian National Railway. The port authority said it will take responsibility for extending rail access to the site and providing other infrastructure that will also benefit future development in the area.

The port also operates a grain terminal and last year opened its first container terminal primarily designed to serve the U.S. market through intermodal connections to the Midwest.

Canpotex is the international marketing and distribution arm for three Canadian potash producers.
