QUOTESHIP.COM LAUNCHES AIR TRANSPORT AUCTION

      QuoteShip.Com, a Boston-based Interent start-up, has launched an online exchange that shippers can use to receive and compare shipment quotes from transportation companies.

      The site initially will be available for shippers in the Northeast United States, providing 'local businesses with significantly more options in the same amount of time to help cut transportation costs out of Logan Airport and other regional hubs — for free,' QuoteShip said.

      Using patented auction software, QuoteShip allows shippers to request quotes from a select group of transport providers and gauge those quotes against prevailing market rates. The auction format will enable 'shippers to create spot quotes on 10 shipments with the same 30 minutes of labor they would typically need to generate one quote under the manual process,' the company said.

      QuoteShip is run by Ray Loehner and Gregg Borgeson, a former executive at forwarder Hellmann International.
