Red HookÆs ASI obtains new business during lease dispute
American Stevedoring International, located at Red Hook's container terminal, has recently confirmed that they completed a deal with an unnamed global shipping company, according to the Carroll Gardens/Cobble Hill Courier.
The company will bring in 28,000 containers a year from Mediterranean markets, with an estimated value of $756 million in cargo coming through Red Hook.
Details will be released in an official announcement later this month.
ASI is in the midst of a lease dispute with the City of New York and the New York Economic Development Corp. The NYEDC would like to give the real estate a makeover, replacing cranes with condos and warehouses with beer gardens.
The container terminal has recently been allowed to stay past the expiration of the lease on March 31, but the future after that date is very uncertain. Both sides remain bullish in the dispute.
