Report: COSCO Hope captain could face charges over Port Said fire

Authorities in Port Said, Egypt are considering the arrest of the captain of the 13,100-TEU containership that collided with a crane earlier this week while exiting the port terminal, causing a fire to break out, according to Splash 24/7.

The captain of the COSCO Hope, a 13,100-TEU containership that collided with a gantry crane earlier this week while exiting Port Said in Egypt, could face charges for his role in the incident, according to a report from maritime news outlet Splash 24/7.
The collision caused the crane to fall onto the port berth, which in turn ignited a fire that spread to several containers on the docks and injured at least two people.
Authorities are reportedly considering the arrest of the captain of the COSCO Hope, which remains anchored outside the port during the investigation.
After nearly three days of disruption and delays for other vessels calling the Suez Canal Container Terminal, operations are set to return to normal today.
COSCO officials have declined to comment on the incident.
