Port workers in Brazil are expected to begin a 24-hour strike today, according to a report from Reuters news service.
The Reuters report cited a statement from shipping agent Williams Brazil, which said the union representing the port workers was calling for a national strike, but did not indicate the union’s specific demands.
Williams Brazil did not immediately respond to a request for comment and clarification.
As noted in the Reuters report, exports of bulk commodities like raw sugar and soybeans from Brazil are “rarely” affected by port worker strikes, but the movement of containerized goods like coffee and poultry is “more easily interrupted.”
