Rhenus acquires Australian freight forwarder

German third-party logistics provider Rhenus Logistics has signed an agreement to buy Australian freight forwarding company and customs broker O’Brien Customs and Forwarding Pty Ltd. for an undisclosed price.

   German third-party logistics provider Rhenus Logistics signed an agreement on June 16 to buy Australian freight forwarding company O’Brien Customs and Forwarding Pty Ltd to expand its network of business sites in the Asia-Pacific region, Rhenus said in a statement Monday.
   Under the agreement, Rhenus will also launch its own national company in Australia, dubbed Rhenus Logistics Australia. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
   In addition, Rhenus is planning on opening new business sites this year in the Asia-Pacific region, with centers in China, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines.
   O’Brien handles air and sea freight consignments, as well as offering customs and warehousing services.
   Rhenus specializes in contract logistics, freight logistics, port logistics and public transport. The company employs over 28,000 people with sites in more than 580 locations worldwide.
