Rickenbacker’s cargo volumes inch up in 2016

The airport handled more cargo tonnage in 2016 from a year prior, thanks to more international cargo transport, which was partially offset by declines in domestic cargo transport.

Rickenbacker International Airport (LCK) handled over 202 million pounds of cargo in 2016, a 1.8 percent increase from 2015, the Columbus Regional Airport Authority said.
Domestic cargo fell 6 percent in 2016 from a year prior, while international cargo soared 16 percent.
Domestic cargo represents about 60 percent of LCK’s airfreight, while international cargo comprises the remaining 40 percent.
Memphis, Tenn-based parcel giant FedEx leads cargo by weight, comprising 43 percent of the cargo market share at LCK, followed by UPS (15 percent), Cargolux (14 percent), Cathay Pacific (12 percent), Emirates (11 percent), charters (4 percent) and Etihad (1 percent).
