Rodriguez receives Captain of Industry Award

Honors also go to Abdullah Aldubaikhi, Rich Cooper, Robinson carriers, Dayton Freight, DSV, Gebrüder Weiss, IFOY winners, MIQ, Resilience360, TenderEasy and Transporeon.

   Husch Blackwell law firm partner Carlos Rodriguez was recognized by the New York New Jersey Foreign Freight Forwarders and Brokers Association with its fourth annual Captain of Industry Award.
   Rodriguez (pictured above) has served as transportation counsel to the association since 1990. 
   Based in Washington, D.C., Rodriguez counsels clients regarding regulation and compliance matters administered by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the Transportation Security Administration and other governing bodies. He frequently advises on regulatory licensing issues, including assisting clients in licensing, registration and voluntary disclosures when required. He works with the Office of Foreign Assets Control on sanctioned country issues and routinely handles complex informal and formal litigation, including rulemaking matters before the Federal Maritime Commission.
   In addition, Rodriguez structures agreements to establish offshore distribution hubs for international distribution activities for retailers and multinational logistics companies. He also is involved in establishing offshore and domestic fulfillment facilities for B2C distribution for e-commerce transactions. And he contributes to American Shipper.

   Bahri CEO Abdullah Aldubaikhi was featured as one of the top 50 industry leaders in a special edition of Tanker Shipping and Trade magazine.
   According to a press release from Bahri, Aldubaikhi was selected for his “visionary stewardship and contribution to the development of the global logistics and transportation industry.”
   Aldubaikhi joined Bahri in January 2018 and draws upon more than three decades of leadership experience across diverse industries. As CEO, he is responsible for steering and overseeing Bahri’s core strategic direction and leads the company’s expansion into new growth markets within the maritime sector while exploring fresh revenue streams. Aldubaikhi is also at the forefront of Bahri’s ongoing endeavors to integrate innovation into its business model, the company said.

   Inland Rivers Ports and Terminals Inc. (IRPT) presented its inaugural Lifetime Achievement Award to Rich Cooper, former CEO of the Ports of Indiana.
   IRPT, of which the Ports of Indiana is a longtime member, is a nationwide trade association for users of the U.S. inland waterway system. The lifetime achievement award was presented during IRPT’s annual conference in Baton Rouge, La.
   “As an industry, we have only come this far thanks to the dedication and leaders before us,” said Aimee Andres, IRPT executive director. “It is because of leaders like Rich who focused attention on freight transportation, building our network and providing leadership that the ports and terminals along our inland rivers system can continuously thrive.”
   Cooper was appointed chief executive officer for the Ports of Indiana in 2005. Under his leadership, the organization experienced unprecedented growth and became a completely self-funded enterprise. He retired in July.

   C.H. Robinson held its second annual Carrier of the Year Awards on Tuesday to recognize its most outstanding North American truckload contract carriers for 2018.
   “We are fortunate to have the largest carrier network in North America and appreciate the work every one of our 76,000 contract carriers does for our customers. The contract carriers recognized for the 2018 awards are the very best examples of the reliable, high-quality carriers that make up our network,” said Mac Pinkerton, C.H. Robinson president of North America surface transportation.

   Echo Global Logistics has presented Dayton Freight Lines with the Regional LTL Carrier Platinum Award.
   This is the second consecutive year Dayton Freight has received the award honoring superior performance in on-time service, claims ratio and customer service metrics such as communication and technology. 
   Founded in 1981, Dayton Freight is a private, union-free less-than-truckload freight carrier headquartered in Dayton, Ohio.
   Mark Redini, vice president of pricing at Echo, said of Dayton Freight, “With a hardworking team dedicated to superior customer service and on-time deliveries, the company sets itself apart from the competition.”
 

   DSV was named Freight Forwarder of the Year at the Air Cargo News awards celebration April 26.
   The award was presented to DSV for delivering “consistent growth through focused acquisitions while maintaining its service quality.”
   DSV previously won the award in 2016.
   “Once again the air cargo industry has proven that innovation and customer service go hand in hand with efficient and secure global supply chains. DSV is a worthy winner of this award for its valuable contribution to air cargo supply chains in a highly competitive sector,” said Roger Hailey, editor of Air Cargo News.
 

   Emerce has named DSV Multi-channel Fulfilment the top fulfilment specialist for the fifth year in a row.
   The DSV team operates out of Moerdijk, the Netherlands.
   Together with the research agency Motivation, Emerce analyzes and rates the performance of service providers in e-business each year. The results appear in Emerce100, a special issue of the trade journal.
   Erik Biemans, customer relations and call center manager at DSV Multi-channel Fulfilment, said, “We’re really starting to really see the synergy effects from joining the DSV Group last year. We now have access to an almost unlimited number of square meters of warehouse space and we benefit from DSV’s import and export expertise and from a hugely expanded European network. 
   “Our purchasing power has also increased significantly. Under the wings of DSV, we can only get bigger and better,” Biemans said.

   Gebrüder Weiss won the Hermes Award for its recently developed transport security system.
   The award is presented annually by the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber Transport and Traffic Division for special achievements and innovations to transportation and logistics companies in Austria.
   “The establishment of security standards has reduced the loss in value of our customers by almost 70 percent in recent years,” said Alexander Horak, head of the high-tech industry vertical at Gebrüder Weiss.

   The International Intralogistics and Forklift Truck of the Year (IFOY) awards were presented April 26 in Vienna, Austria.
   Cargometer GmbH, a Viennese company, received the award in the intralogistics software category for its tool for freight dimensioning on moving forklifts.
   German manufacturer Jungheinrich AG won the prize in the warehouse truck category for its ETV 216i, the world’s first reach truck with a fully integrated lithium ion battery.
   U.S. forklift truck specialist The Raymond Corporation received the trophy in the “special of the year” category for its virtual reality simulator. With the use of virtual reality glasses, forklift drivers can be trained and tested on a real Raymond truck.
   Still GmbH took home the honors in the AGV and intralogistics robot category. The Hamburg-based company was recognized for its LiftRunner tugger train with automatic loading and unloading.
   UniCarriers Europe AB was awarded for the most innovative counterbalanced truck, its TX 3 three-wheel with 1.6 ton load capacity.
   Munich-based manufacturer ProGlove was named startup of the year. The company was recognized for its intelligent glove for scanning barcodes and 2D codes.
   The IFOY awards are sponsored by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy and presented by the Association for Materials Handling and Intralogistics.
 

  MIQ Logistics Inc. S.R.L. was presented the Safe Partner trophy by Mineração Taboca S.A. in recognition of its commitment to safety on the Minsur – San Rafael B2 project throughout 2018.
   MIQ Logistics is providing an end-to-end logistics solution for the project, including multimodal transportation and management of the on-site project warehouse.
   The Minsur – San Rafael B2 project, designed to extend the life of the San Rafael tin mine in the Puno region of southern Peru, represents an investment of about $200 million.
   
   Resilience 360 was named one of the 50 procurement providers to watch for 2019 by Spend Matters, an analyst website covering the procurement and supply chain sectors.
   Resilience360 is a supply chain risk management platform that helps businesses predict, assess and mitigate the risk of supply chain disruptions.
   “Proper procurement management is vital. An organization can end up spending over half of its revenue on purchasing goods and services to fulfill its business model,” said Tobias Larsson, CEO of Resilience360. “R360 was actually created initially within the logistics world but is increasingly being used to mitigate and manage supplier risk, so we appreciate the validation from Spend Matters.”
   TenderEasy, a provider of technology for transportation sourcing, freight tendering/RFQs and spot bidding across air, land and sea and part of Alpega Group, also has been named a 2019 top 50 provider to watch by Spend Matters.
   Shippers using TenderEasy can run multimodal freight contract tendering, spot bidding and audit and reconcile logistics invoices, the company said, adding, “Eliminating manual processes increases the speed and accuracy of the procurement process while simultaneously ramping up the number of participating carriers.”
   Johan Vagerstam, CEO and co-founder of TenderEasy, said the Spend Matters ranking “reaffirms the market need for technology in the freight procurement process and underlines the user-friendly nature of our solution.”
  
   Inbound Logistics magazine has named Transporeon Group Americas, a global provider of a cloud-based transportation management platform encompassing carrier sourcing, shipment execution and dock scheduling, a top 100 logistics IT provider for the fifth year in a row.
