Russian port makes order for Kalmar equipment

Kalmar Industries said Wednesday it has received an order from JSC Sea Port in St. Petersburg, Russia, for 24 machines for delivery from May to September.

The order comprises 12 forklift trucks with lifting capacities ranging from 10 to 32 tons, eight terminal tractors, three reach-stackers and one empty container handler.

JSC Sea Port handled 11.8 million tons of cargo in 2006, including metals, coal, chemical, timber and containers. The terminal operator has worked with Kalmar, a Finnish manufacturer of container and heavy-lift handling equipment, for more than 30 years. At present, it relies on more than 80 Kalmar machines to perform day-to-day handling duties.

The latest forklift trucks on order will replace some older equipment and will be used for handling steel, aluminum products and containers. The remaining equipment will be largely engaged in handling the growing number of containers at the port.
