At the end of last month, Ryder System surpassed its goal of hiring 1,000 veterans by the end of the year, a pledge made in November 2011 as part of the federal government’s Hiring Our Heroes program.
Ten percent of Ryder’s workforce now consists of veterans. The veterans now working at Ryder serve as truck drivers, diesel mechanics and warehouse employees. These employees have been equipped with logistical, management, mechanical and teamwork experience by the military, said Robert Sanchez, Ryder’s president and chief executive officer.
“Attracting and developing the best talent in our industry is one of Ryder’s strategic priorities, and hiring talented military veterans is an important part of this effort,” he said in a statement. “As a leader in transportation and logistics, we recognize the unique abilities and character inherent in military personnel.” – Jon Ross
