Saddle Creek to build mega-DC in Chicagoland

The 3PL is replacing its existing DC with a larger one at the CenterPoint intermodal park.

Saddle Creek Logistics said Thursday it has broken ground on a 1.1 million-square-foot distribution center at the CenterPoint Intermodal Center in Joliet, Ill., about 50 miles from Chicago.
The facility is scheduled to open in early 2016 and will replace the third party logistics providers’ existing 590,000-square-foot facility in the Chicago area.
Saddle Creek, headquartered in Lakeland, Fla., offers warehousing, transportation, packaging and fulfillment services from 37 facilities around the nation.
The CenterPoint Intermodal Center is the largest inland port in the United States and foreign trade zone.
The new distribution center will have 132 dock doors a secured yard and is adjacent to the BNSF and Union Pacific rail yards.
The company said the space can be built to suit specific customer needs.
