Safmarine adds Far East/East Africa service

Safmarine adds Far East/East Africa service

Safmarine said it will begin a weekly service between the Far East and East Africa on March 2.

The New Mashariki Express service will be fully containerized and offer improved transit times and reliability, the company said. It will replace the existing Mombasa Express service. The word mashariki means 'east' in Swahili.

The new service will be launched on March 2, with the sailing of the 2,496-TEU Safmarine Zambezi from Mombasa in Kenya to Tanjung Pelepas in the Far East. Six ships will be deployed in the service.

The service will offer reduced transit time and have preferred berthing in both Mombasa and Tanjung Pelepas, said John Lim, Safmarine's Eastern Africa manager.

Transit time from Tanjung Pelepas to Mombasa is 13 days and Dar es Salaam to Tanjung Pelepas is 21 days. The Mashariki Express port rotation is Tanjung Pelepas, Mombasa, Dar es Salaam and Tanjung Pelepas.

The 2,496-TEU Safmarine Zambezi will kick off the New Mashariki Express March 2.
