SAFMARINE CONTAINER LINES TO BRING CMBT, AGENCIES UNDER SINGLE BRAND
Safmarine Container Lines said it will bring its shipping and agency
operations under the Safmarine brand name.
While SCL will continue to market its shipping services under two
"brands," Safmarine and CMBT, the latter name will be phased out by
2001."This is in accordance with a long-standing agreement with former
shareholder, CMB NV," said Howard Boyd, chief executive of SCL.
SCL-owned agencies, including the wholly owned Aseco companies in
Europe; Saflink and Zimbabwe Shipping Services in Southern Africa; and Gulf and Atlantic
Maritime Services in the U.S. will be moved under the SCL brand name in the next several
months, Boyd said. Aseco will retain its name when conducting non-SCL business.
"Our new shareholder, the A.P. Moller Group, believes that the name
‘Safmarine’ and its traditional logo are of significant value, and that by
using these forms of identity all of SCL will be seen to be independent
from sister company, Maersk Line," Boyd said.
