SAFMARINE EXTENDS REEFER TRAIN LINK TO TRANSVAAL
Safmarine Container Lines has extended its reefer container train
service to the Northern Transvaal province to carry avocado exports from
South Africa.
A reefer train consisting of 34 container railcars, with a central
railcar carrying electric generators, provides the service from the
Northern Transvaal city of Tzaneen to the port of Cape Town, located about
2,000 kilometers south.
Since the cargo is packed at source, the cold chain is kept intact by
the container train link, Safmarine said.
Last year, SCL had introduced a reefer container link from the Northern
Cape province for exporters of grapes.
