SAS Cargo acquires Sterling

SAS Cargo has acquired Sterling, the former Maersk Air Cargo general sales agency, for an undisclosed amount.

Under the terms of the takeover, which becomes effective Oct. 1, SAS Cargo will assume the freight sales agency for eight foreign airlines in the Nordic and Baltic countries and also Sterling’s 22 employees.

“We will, in addition to our current business, also focus on growth in the freight agency business, and will be selling freight capacity on aircrafts not owned by the SAS Group. With this we are able to offer freight customers transport solutions from the Nordic and Baltic countries, which previously were not possible,” said Kenneth Marx, president and chief executive officer of SAS Cargo.

Sterling’s customers include Air Baltic, bmi Cargo, Cathay Pacific Airways, Finnair, Estonian Air, Iberia, South African Airways, Qatar Airways and UPS Air Cargo.

In 2004, Sterling’s handled more than 10,000 tons, SAS Cargo said.
