SCFI falls on major trades

Spot container rates from Shanghai to Europe, the Mediterranean and the United States all declined since last Friday, according to figures from the Shanghai Shipping Exchange’s Shanghai Containerized Freight Index.

   The Shanghai Shipping Exchange’s Shanghai Containerized Freight Index (SCFI) fell 2.8 percent from last Friday’s reading of 861.91 to a reading of 837.42, with rates falling on trades from Shanghai, to Europe, the Mediterranean and the United States.
   Since last week, rates from Shanghai to Europe fell 2.1 percent, from $939 per TEU to $919 per TEU, while rates from Shanghai to the Mediterranean slipped 1.4 percent, from $864 per TEU to $852 per TEU.
   Meanwhile, rates from Shanghai to the U.S. West Coast fell 3.1 percent since last week, from $1,265 per FEU to $1,226 per FEU, while rates from Shanghai to the U.S. East Coast slipped 0.8 percent, from $2,251 per FEU to $2,233 per FEU.
